Fort Worth, Texas -- The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's
tennis team was unable to gain traction Friday at the ITA Regional
being held on the campus of TCU.
Erika Iriarte took on Samantha VanderDrift from Texas Tech in the 2:30 p.m. afternoon match in the open draw. Iriarte fell in two sets by a score of 6-1; 6-0. Iriarte is scheduled to take on Mykala Hedberg of LSU on Saturday in a 9 a.m. match in the first round of the consolation draw.
Alexandra Dyckman advanced to the round of 16 where she took on Lynley Wasson of Houston. Dyckman fell by a score of 3-6; 6-3; 6-3 and will now compete in the quarterfinals of the consolation round against Maya Zein of the University of Texas.
Akexandra Valarezo took on Kylie Adamek of LSU in the first round of the consolation draw, falling by a score of 7-6; 6-2. Valarezo will now move to take on Constanza Gonzalez of Lamar in the quarterfinals of the Southeast consolation draw.
In doubles action, the team of Iriarte and Dyckman took on Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic of Texas in the round of 32, falling by a score of 8-2.
Iriarte and Dyckman now move on to the consolation draw where they will take on Weronika Bloczynska and Martina Trierweiler of UTEP in a 12:30 p.m. match on Saturday.
The Islanders will be competing in at least four matches Saturday and look to bounce back from a rough Friday outing.
