The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program opened the fall season this Friday at the Stepehn F. Austin Fall Invite
The Islanders brought three athletes to the SFA Fall Invite on the campus of Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin.
Erica Iriarte, Alexandra Dyckman and Alexandra Valerezo were representing the Islanders at the tournament.
All three Islanders won their first individual matches of the day.
Iriarte won her first match against Giraldo of Texas State by a score of 6-4, 6-4 before falling in the second round to Gutierrez of Lamar by a 6-0, 6-3 mark.
Valarezo defeated Joubert of North Texas by scores of 7-6, 6-7(9) before falling to Ashrati of Lamar by scores of 7-5, 6-3.
Dyckman was the final Islander of the day to start, knocking off Martirosyan of Sam Houston State with 6-2, 6-3 scores before falling to Nava of Lamar by 6-3, 6-1 scores.
In the Islanders only doubles match of the day, Iriarte and Dyckman fell to Sotnikova and Taylor of Sam Houston State by a score of 8-4.
The SFA Fall Invite continues Saturday and Sunday with more
singles and doubles action on the slate.
