Samantha Larson joined the Islanders Soccer staff in May 2013. Larson previously served as an assistant coach for Division III Elmira College in New York. In her role for the Islanders, Larson will oversee all travel for the Islanders as well as assisting with camps and equipment in addition to day-to-day operations of the staff.
"Samantha (Sam) is a welcomed addition to our staff and the University,” Caldwell said. “She will be assisting in all facets of the program and has already been a positive representative within the community. Sam is an up-and-coming coach with a bright future ahead. She shares a unique passion and knowledge for the sport that will support each athlete in their growth on and off the field."
Most recently, Larson spent two years as the assistant varsity coach and head JV coach for Division III Elmira College. While there, she led the team to its most successful season in six years. In addition to planning and directing training sessions for the players, she also scouted opponents and recruits, oversaw academic issues for the team, and ran all travel coordination for the Soaring Eagles
Prior to her time at Elmira, Larson played two years for Division II American International College in Springfield, Mass. She started on defense for two years for the Yellow Jackets, leading the squad to its first victory in the NCAA Tournament in program history. In her time there, she also coached the Westfield Under-15 Girls Team to a league championship.
She also played for two years at Laramie County Community College in Wyoming, where she was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas All-American in 2009. She also spent a year playing for the New England Mutiny of the Women’s Professional Soccer League.
Larson earned her master’s degree from Elmira in general education in 2013. She earned a bachelor’s degree from AIC in sociology in 2011 and an associate’s degree from LCCC in 2009. The native of San Jose, Calif., has her NSCAA National and Advanced National Diplomas and Goalkeeping Level 1 and 2 Diplomas from the organization.
