46 Islanders Named to Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Department of Athletics placed 46 student-athletes on the 2013 Southland Conference Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll, marking a new all-time high for the program in school history. A student-athlete must earn at least a 3.0 GPA during the preceding fall semester to qualify for the honor. The honor roll includes student-athletes who took part in men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer and volleyball.

Leading the way for the Islanders are nine athletes with a 4.0 GPA, including four members of the women's soccer team. Audrey Baldwin, Emma Biba, Sara Chandlee and Chandler Devine all posted perfect semesters in the classroom for the soccer squad. Men's cross country saw Justin Adame and Philipp Baar each posted 4.0 GPAs as did Regina Salinas for the women's squad. Logen Bourque and Ashley Phelps also garnered perfect semesters for the volleyball team.

In its first year as a varsity program, women's soccer saw 18 players earn a 3.0 GPA or better. In addition to the four players with perfect scores in the classroom, Amber Battiest, Jessica Berdan, Jenna-Kaya Charles, Meghan Cordero, Yvette Franco, Dani Gonzalez, Jenny Hwang, Hannah Joseph, Rachel Keeley, Audrey Kuhl, Kennah Leal, Mariah Olivé, Amanda Ramirez and Hailey Sutton each earned a spot on the Honor Roll.

Volleyball had 10 players recognized by the conference for their academics during the playing season. Along with Bourque and Phelps, Brianna Brink, Morgan Carlson, Courtney Cary, Alexis Fritz, Hailey King, Valarie Moehrig, Haley Satterwhite and Abby Whitehead were all honored by the Southland for their academics.

The cross country teams saw 18 student-athletes earn Honor Roll recognition, seven on the men's side and 11 on the women's. Joining Adame and Baar on the list are Paul Hansel, Christoph Hintz, Brandon Lacy, Edgar Martinez and Valentinas Rudys on the men's side. Salinas was joined on the women's side by Jasmine Boutte, Vanessa Galindo, Saira Gonzalez, Samantha Hardin, Lara Huelsebusch, Cecy Jones, Ann-Kathrin Ott, Paola Perez, Shelby Polasek and Alex Rossi.

The Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll is released within 30 days at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, recognizing student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
