CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team returns home this weekend for a Friday afternoon affair against McNeese State at the Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium. The match is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
The Cowgirls (5-5-1, 0-3-0 SLC) are also seeking to get on the board in conference action, coming off a tough 1-0 loss in double overtime at the hands of Sam Houston State last weekend. MSU has also dropped affairs to Nicholls (3-0) and Southeastern Louisiana (1-0) in league play, and has not found the back of the net in its last five contests.
McNeese has had even scoring balance so far this year, with Tori Lasiter's four goals best on the team. Jordan Beasley and Haley Lyons also have chipped in three goals apiece, with a total of 10 Cowgirls having scored goals on the season. Lauren Sestak has been a standout at keeper, playing in eight games with seven starts, posting an .833 save percentage and a 1.14 goals against average.
The Islanders are in search of their first conference victory, having fallen in four one-goal affairs in Southland play this year. Last weekend, A&M-Corpus Christi gave conference leader Oral Roberts all it could handle, taking the Golden Eagles down to the wire in a 2-1 defeat. The Islanders have lost three 2-1 games, with a 1-0 loss to Southeastern in addition.
Individually, Yvette Franco has been the standout, with her eight goals and 18 points best on the team. Brooke Erdmann and Alyssa Miller each scored goals last weekend for the Islanders, as Miller's was her second tally of the year. In net, Audrey Baldwin has been nothing short of stellar, with her 71 saves leading the conference. She has posted a .755 save percentage on the season.
