CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team returns to the Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium for the Islanders Soccer Classic this weekend. Campbell, Texas Southern, Dallas Baptist and St. Edward's will join the host Islanders at the event.
On Friday, Aug. 30, Campbell will take on Texas Southern at 2 p.m. at Dugan Stadium, with the host Islanders set to face Dallas Baptist in the second game of the day at 4:30 p.m. The Camels fell 3-0 to Marshall in their season opener, while Texas Southern has gone 0-3 on the season, being outscored 27-3 over that span.
The host Islanders will be in search of their first victory of the season after a heartbreaking loss at the hands of Houston in the program's inaugural match. Over 1,000 fans were in the stands to see the Islanders fight to a 2-1 defeat to the Cougars, with Alyssa Miller scoring the first goal in program history.
Dallas Baptist should provide a stiff test for A&M-Corpus Christi, as the Patriots were ranked 14th in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason Division II poll and were recently ranked second nationally by the National Christian College Athletic Association. They will be playing for the first time this season.
On Sunday, the Classic will conclude with the Islanders taking on Campbell at 11 a.m. and TSU facing St. Edward's at 1:30. SEU is picked as the preseason favorite in the Heartland Conference, edging out DBU for the top spot in that poll.
Tickets for all games in the tournament are available on the day of the game or by contacting the Islanders Athletics Ticket Office at 825-BALL (2255). Fans can also visit the Tickets page of GoIslanders.com for more information.
