CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team hosted the first practice in team history on Tuesday morning at the Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium. The Islanders took part in testing then took to the field for some intra-squad scrimmaging in their first time together on the pitch.
"The first day of practice always has a lot of nervous energy and we really got that out during warmups," head coach Shanna Caldwell said. "The main goal of today was to get them out there, get a look at them, record some scores, and see how they work – the leadership, who works together, team shape – the basic foundations of things that we'll continue to grow and build on the rest of the preseason. It didn't quite feel real since we've been waiting so long, it was awesome to see the players come out here in their gear all together."
The Islanders will christen the new Dugan Stadium on Friday, Aug. 23, when they play host to the University of Houston at 5 p.m. in the first regular-season match in program history. A&M-Corpus Christi will also play an exhibition against the University of Texas on Aug. 16 in Austin, with the match slated to start at 7 p.m.
