CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team will christen the newly constructed Dr. Jack Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium on Aug. 23, with the program's inaugural match. The Islanders will play host to the University of Houston, with the contest slated to begin at 5 p.m.
"August 23 is going to be a tremendous evening for our program, for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and for the Corpus Christi community," head coach Shanna Caldwell said. "To be able to play our first game in such an amazing facility, in front of what we expect to be a great crowd – it's just going to be a special night. It can't get here fast enough."
The event will be the grand opening of the facility, which is quickly nearing completion. Located on the Momentum Campus on Nile Drive, the Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium is one of the premier soccer and track facilities in the area, with permanent seating for nearly 800 fans and the ability to accommodate over 1,000 overall. The facility will be the permanent home for both the soccer program and the Islanders Track & Field program, which has an on-campus practice and competition facility for the first time.
The remainder of the Islanders Soccer schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
Caldwell and assistant coaches Lauren Molinaro and Samantha Larson have signed 22 student-athletes for the program's inaugural season. Sixteen freshmen have signed on with the team in addition to six transfers (two sophomores, three juniors, one senior) to comprise the first Islanders Soccer team at this point.
