Phil Blackmar was named the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi assistant women’s golf coach in May 2012. He had previously served as the team’s volunteer assistant coach. He is the husband of head coach Carol Blackmar.
Blackmar is a former member of the PGA Tour and currently plays on the Champions Tour. He posted three PGA Tour wins in his career, all in playoffs – the 1985 Canon Sammy Davis Jr.-Greater Hartford Open, 1988 Provident Classic and 1997 Shell Houston Open. He played in 19 majors in his time on tour, with his finest performance a sixth-place finish at the 1997 PGA Championship.
In 2000, he walked away from the Tour and spent time as an analyst and commentator for both USA and ESPN. He joined the Champions Tour in 2007, where he won the 2009 AT&T Championship in San Antonio. He has posted seven top-10 finishes in his Champions Tour career. He is currently still active on the Champions Tour while also serving as a televised analyst for the Golf Channel.
Blackmar also served as an instructor with Hall of Fame instructor Jim Flick and PGA teacher of the year Mike Malaska for Nicklaus/Flick golf schools. Has been featured on several Golf Channel instructional shows with Jim Flick as well as instructed several PGA Tour professionals.
In his duties as assistant coach, Blackmar aids in recruiting and travel coordination in addition to everyday work with the student-athletes.
Blackmar is a 1980 graduate of the University of Texas, where he met his future wife. The couple has four adult children and one grandchild.
