HOUSTON – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team will take to the course on Monday, March 31, for its final pre-conference tune-up when it takes part in the HBU Husky Invitational. The event will feature 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday, April 1.
The Islanders will be led by junior Vanessa Johnson, who logged her second career win and fourth career top-5 by garnering the title at last week's UALR Women's Golf Classic. Johnson shot a three-round 219, the third-lowest mark in her time with the Islanders, taking home medalist honors.
As a team, A&M-Corpus Christi finished in seventh place at UALR, posting a 950 for the tournament. The Islanders sat in fifth place through the first two rounds of the event, but fell off on the final day, hampered in part by an injury that forced Fenniak to withdraw.
The Husky Invitational will be held at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas. The course will be laid out to a par-72 and will total 6,084 yards.
Along with host Houston Baptist, several other Southland Conference squads will be in attendance at the event. Central Arkansas, Incarnate Word, Lamar, New Orleans, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin are among the 14 teams in the field. The remainder of the competitors are Houston, Louisiana-Monroe, McLennan Community College, North Dakota, Oklahoma City and Texas-Pan American.
Updates will be provided as they become available on Twitter (@IslandersGolf) throughout the day on Monday, with a full recap at the end of the day on GoIslanders.com.
