RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team returns to action this weekend for the elite Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. It marks the third year in a row that the Islanders have taken part in the event, which is hosted by Western Michigan University.
The Invitational returns to the Quail Run course at Rio Verde Country Club after last year's event was played on the White Wing course. Quail Run is set up to a par-71 with a length of 6,209 yards. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days, 18 holes each day. Friday begins with a 1 p.m. MT shotgun start, while Saturday and Sunday are both 8 a.m. MT shotgun starts.
The entire 2013 field returns for the 2014 event, with the addition of Illinois State bringing the total to 18 teams. In addition to the Islanders and host Broncos, this year's field includes Akron, Arkansas-Little Rock, Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Eastern Michigan, Kansas City, Missouri State, Montana, Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, Wichita State and Xavier.
The Islanders will send the same five golfers to the event that played in the Islanders Classic on Feb. 24-25. Seniors Krista Fenniak and Lindsay Biehler, junior Vanessa Johnson and freshmen Ana Paredes and Claudia Galindo will represent the Island University.
