CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team will host its lone home event this week, as the Islanders Classic will be held at Corpus Christi Country Club on Monday, Feb. 24, and Tuesday, Feb. 25. Sixteen teams will compete in the 2014 edition of the Classic.
Monday will feature 36 holes with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while Tuesday will see the final round tee off at 8:15 a.m., also a shotgun start. The Country Club is set up to par-72 and a distance of 6,108 yards.
Several Southland Conference foes will join the Islanders at the event, and 13 of 14 participants from last year's Classic have returned. Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin round out seven Southland schools at the Classic. Other teams hailing from the Lone Star State include North Texas, Texas-Pan American, McLennan Community College and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Bradley, Drake, Northern Illinois and South Dakota will all come to the Coastal Bend from the Midwest, while Oklahoma City University will round out the field of 16.
Vanessa Johnson will play in the number one slot for the Islanders, with Krista Fenniak in the number two slot. Lindsay Biehler will play at the three, with Ana Paredes and Claudia Galindo rounding out the lineup. It will be the final home event for seniors Fenniak and Biehler. The Islanders will tee off on holes 1-3, and will play the opening two rounds with Lamar and ORU.
