CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team will embark on its final outing of the fall season, as it takes part in the 36th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. After a practice round on Saturday, the teams will play 18 holes each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the event.
The Invitational is one of the most prestigious women's college golf events, and is hosted at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. The Cypress Links course will be set up for a par 72 and 6,288 yards.
Seventeen teams will take part in the 2013 version of the event. Joining the Islanders and host Florida International are Bethune-Cookman, Bradley, Cincinnati, Daytona State, Delaware, Drake, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Maryland, Memphis, Missouri, North Texas, Southern Miss and Western Illinois. Sunday and Monday will begin at 9:30 a.m, Tuesday will begin at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start each day.
The Islanders finished sixth as a team at last year's event, shooting a 914 throughout the three days. The team had four players finish in the top 36, with Vanessa Johnson finishing 17th and Krista Fenniak 19th. Four of the top five teams, including reigning champ FIU, return for the 2013 field. Second-place Cincinnati, third-place Bradley and fifth-place Daytona State are also back in the fold.
A&M-Corpus Christi will send the same lineup to the links it has throughout the fall, with Fenniak and Johnson joined by senior Lindsay Biehler and freshmen Ana Paredes and Claudia Galindo. Biehler leads the team with her 76.67 stroke average, while Johnson has led the team in each of the last two events, averaging 74 strokes in the last six rounds.
