TULSA, Okla. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team returns to the course Monday for the ORU Shootout, Presented by Bob Hurley Auto Family. The event, hosted by Oral Roberts, will be 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 30, with the final 18 holes to be played on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
This is the second event of the season for the Islanders, who finished 12th at the season-opening Chip-N-Club Invitational earlier in September. The team has had the last three weeks off from competition.
The Shootout will be played at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa, and will be laid out for a par-71 and a total of 6,120 yards. The action on both days will start at 8:30 a.m.
Five other Southland teams will be at the event other than the Islanders and host Golden Eagles. Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin will also take part. Other members of the 18-team field include Arkansas State, Missouri State, Northern Arizona, Northern Iowa, Southern Utah, UALR, UTEP, Wichita State, Western Texas, McLennan CC and Oklahoma City.
The Islanders finished seventh at the Shootout in 2012, delivering a three-round 943. Vanessa Johnson led the team with her seventh-place finish, with Krista Fenniak also posting a top-20, coming in 19th. Lamar dominated the field a year ago, finishing 24 strokes ahead of second-place ORU.
Johnson and Fenniak return to the lineup once again, joined by senior Lindsay Biehler and freshmen Ana Paredes and Claudia Galindo. Updates will be provided at the end of each round on the official Twitter page of Islanders Golf, @IslandersGolf.
