MISSOURI CITY – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's golf team embarks on its final pre-conference tune-up this week, as it takes part in the HBU Husky Invitational on Monday, April 1, and Tuesday, April 2. The 54-hole event will be held at Riverbend Country Club.
The first two rounds will be played on Monday, with the final 18 holes taking place on Tuesday. Riverbend CC will be laid out to play at a par-72 with a total distance of 6,026 yards.
In addition to host Houston Baptist, several Southland Conference foes will be taking part in the event. Lamar, Central Arkansas, McNeese State and Sam Houston State are also slated to play. Other participants in the 15-team field include Butler, Chicago State, McLennan Community College, North Dakota, Oklahoma City, Redlands Community College, Texas-Pan American, UAB and Western Texas.
Last year, the Islanders finished sixth at the Husky Invitational, with Vanessa Johnson (T-12), Taylor Slagle (T-14) and Krista Fenniak (T-17) each posting a top-20 finish. Lindsay Biehler finished in a tie for 43rd at the event for the Islanders, who were without Nikki Dunn after she suffered an injury just before the first round of competition. Those five players will all hit the course for A&M – Corpus Christi this week.
The Islanders are coming off a sixth-place finish at the UALR Women's Golf Classic last week. Dunn led the way with a fourth-place finish, the best of the senior's career, while Slagle also came in top-20 by finishing 16th.
Results will be posted as they become available on the official Twitter feed of Islanders Golf (@IslandersGolf). A full recap will also be available Monday evening on GoIslanders.com.
