LAS VEGAS – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's golf team sits in fifth place after the opening day of the Bucknell Women's Invitational, played on the Snow Mountain Course at Paiute Golf Club. The Islanders shot a two-round 635 (317-318), putting them just four shots back of second-place San Francisco.
Play at the event was slowed significantly due to high winds throughout the day. Oral Roberts holds a 17-shot lead for the team title after delivering a 614, as the Golden Eagles have three of the top five players in the field. USF is in second with a 631 (320-311), with Eastern Kentucky (314-319—633) and host Bucknell (322-312—634) just ahead of the Islanders.
Vanessa Johnson (79-77—156) sits in 10th to lead A&M – Corpus Christi, which has four players in the top 20. Nikki Dunn is tied for 16th with a 159 (77-82), while Ryann White (80-80—160) and Taylor Slagle (81-79—160) are tied for 19th at the event. Krista Fenniak sits 77th after posting a 172 (89-83—172).
The Islanders will play alongside Bucknell and Northern Iowa in the second group of the day on Saturday for the final 18 holes, as they will tee off on holes 3-5. The Panthers are just one shot behind the Islanders with a 636 (326-310). Results will be posted on Twitter @IslandersGolf as they become available.
