Golf Finishes Third at Islanders Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi golf team posted a third-round 313 on Tuesday to finish in third place at the Islanders Classic, hosted by the Corpus Christi Country Club. UTSA took first at the three-round event with an 888, while Lamar finished in second at 928.

The Islanders had three players finish in the overall top 20. Junior Nikki Dunn (77-75-79—231) and freshman Vanessa Johnson (75-78-78—231) tied for 13^th, while Ryann White (75-81-76—232) finished just one shot behind in 19^th. Taylor Slagle carded a 32^nd-place finish with a three-round 238 (77-81-80), while Lindsay Biehler was 68^th (85-88-86—239).

The Roadrunners had the co-individual champions in addition to taking the team title. Summer Batiste (75-74-71—220) and Taylor Newlin (72-73-75—220) tied for the overall crown, while the remaining three UTSA players finished in a three-way tie for fourth. North Dakota State's Amy Anderson was the main challenger for medalist honors, posting a 221 (75-70-76) to finish just one shot off the lead.

UTSA posted 296 in each of its three rounds, the only rounds under 300 posted by any team at the event. Lamar overcame a three-shot deficit in the final round to take second place with a three-round 928 (304-317-307). A&M – Corpus Christi finished just four shots behind at 932 (304-315-313), while Houston Baptist (313-311-312—936) and Bradley (314-314-309—937) rounded out the top five teams.

The Islanders also had three individuals participating in the event at their home course. Krista Fenniak finished in a tie for 40^th with a 242 (72-86-84), while Cristina Reynoso was 51^st after a 247 (77-89-81). Nicole Shea rounded out the Islanders individuals (89-90-86—265).

A&M – Corpus Christi will return to action on March 9, when it travels to Arizona for the prestigious Rio Verde Invitational. The Islanders will then head on to Las Vegas for the Bucknell Women's Invitational on March 16-17.
