Dunn Leads Islanders in Bob Hurley ORU Shootout

TULSA, Okla. – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's golf team wrapped up its second tournament of the fall with a ninth place finish at the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout at Meadowbrook Country Club. Nikki Dunn led the way with an 11th-place result for the Islanders, shooting a 230 (78-77-75).

Just like Dunn, the Islanders improved every round of the event, finishing with a 314 in the final 18 holes to finish with a 953 (321-318-314). Redlands CC (305-312-304—921) took the team title, rallying past Arkansas State (316-296-311—928). Lamar (317-305-306—928) led the Southland schools at the event with a fourth-place finish, besting fifth-place Sam Houston State (312-315-309—936) by eight shots. Stephen F. Austin (329-332-346—1007) finished 14th at the event.

Dunn missed a top-10 finish by just a single stroke, as Lamar's Katelyn McDougal and UTEP's Teresa Nogues tied for ninth with a 229. Oklahoma City's Jessica Schiele took the individual title with a three-round 223.

"I'm glad that we were able to improve our performance each round," head coach Carol Blackmar said, "but I know that we are capable of more than we showed this weekend. It was great to see such a strong performance out of Nikki after a disappointing first tournament.

"I was also really pleased with Lindsay Biehler – she has been working hard on her mental toughness and it really showed today when she bounced back to finish par-par," she added. "If we can get all our players rolling at once, I know we can contend for a Southland title."

Ryann White shot a 78 in the final round to finish with a 238 (85-75-78) for the tournament. Biehler delivered a 79 in Tuesday's action to post a 239 (81-79-79) in the event. Krista Fenniak (77-87-82—246) and Cristina Reynoso (88-87-82—257) rounded out the action for the Islanders.

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi returns to action next weekend at the Harold Funston Tournament, hosted by Sam Houston State in Huntsville. The Islanders will play 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 10, and 18 on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the event.
