White's 72 Keeps Islanders Fourth at Southland Championship

Ryann White tied for the low round of the day with a 72 as the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team remained in fourth place through two rounds of the Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship. The Islanders are just three shots behind third-place Texas State with a 624 (313-311).

UTSA leads the way with a 603, after posting an impressive 297 on the second day. Lamar is second with a 610 (297-313), while the Bobcats have a 621 (300-313). Sam Houston State sits fifth with a 629 (320-209), while Central Arkansas (320-322-642), McNeese State (316-327-643) and Stephen F. Austin (324-335-659) rounded out the field.

White sits in a tie for 10th overall for the Islanders (82-72-154), while Katie Belser is just one stroke back in 12th (77-78-155). Nikki Dunn sits in 14th with a 156 (74-82-156), with Cecilia Jeon (80-79-159) in a tie for 20th. Lindsay Biehler is tied for 36th (87-82-169).

White had a stellar second day, opening with seven straight pars and then notching a birdie two on the eighth to finish the front nine one under. Bogeys on 10 and 13 pushed her over par for the only time on the day, as she rallied with a birdie on the par-3 14th and par-5 15th. A bogey on 17 put her even for the day, as she notched one of just three 72s by the field for the round.

Belser had a strong finish to the second day to post a 78. She bogeyed three of the first six holes, but a birdie on eight sent her two-over-par. Unfortunately, the ninth proved her undoing, as a double bogey had her plus-four at the turn. She had another bogey on 10 to fall to five over, but rallied to par seven of the final eight holes to finish the day six over.

Jeon rebounded from a double on one, notching a birdie on three to sit one over. After a bogey on four, she parred 9 of the next 12 holes to sit at plus-five, but a double on 17 pushed her to seven-over-par, where she finished with a 79.

Dunn had a setback from her impressive opening-day finish, posting an 82 in round two. On holes 8-12, she had three double bogeys and two birdies, and also notched a double on 17. Biehler carved five shots off her first round total, carding an 82 on day two. She had five bogeys on both the front and the back to finish off her round 10-over.

The third round of the SLC Women's Golf Championship will tee off at 8 a.m. on Wednesday at CCCC. The Islanders will start on the first tee at 9:20, with Biehler starting things. Jeon will follow at 9:28, then Dunn at 9:36, Belser at 9:44 and White at 9:52.
