The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team will be in search of its second Southland Conference Tournament championship, when it plays host to the tourney from Monday, April 18, through Wednesday, April 20, at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
The Islanders will begin their quest for their first title since 2009 at 8:40 a.m., when Lindsay Biehler tees off. Cecilia Jeon will follow at 8:48, and then Katie Belser at 8:56, Nikki Dunn at 9:04 and Ryann White at 9:12. The Islanders will be paired with Central Arkansas in the opening round.
Texas State returns four golfers from its 2010 championship team that set the Southland tournament record for lowest winning score (885) and overcame a 15-stroke deficit in the final round to claim its second title in the last three years. UTSA looks to claim its first Southland championship as the Roadrunners enter the tournament as the highest ranked team in the conference. The Bobcats and Roadrunners, as the top two teams in the rankings, will be paired together for the opening 18 holes, beginning at 10 a.m.
Sam Houston State and Lamar will start their rounds at 9:20 a.m., while McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin are the first two teams out on the course at 8 a.m.
The Islanders will look to recapture their strength at the course where they tied for fifth in the American Bank Islander Classic at the end of February. The Islanders finished third among the seven Southland teams that played in that event, just eight shots back of UTSA and 10 behind Lamar. White finished fourth to lead the Islanders in the event.
The championship will be 18 holes played on each day of the three-day event. Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com and Southland.org
