Islanders Post Final-Round 315 at Baylor Spring Invite
Nikki Dunn and Cecilia Jeon each posted final-round 77s to lead the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team in the second day of the Baylor Spring Invitational on Tuesday. The Islanders placed 16th as a team with a three-round 964 (328-321-315), as they improved each round of the Invite. Dunn led the Islanders individually, finishing in a tie for 29th.
Dunn's round got off to a tough start, as a double on 16 put her two over. She responded with four straight pars, then delivered a five on the par-4 third to fall to plus-3. She bounced back with pars on five of the next six holes, and followed that up by notching a birdie on the 10th to return to three-over par. A par on 11 was supplanted by a bogey on 12, then she finished bogey-par to wrap up the final round with a 77. Over the tournament she finished at 233 (84-72-77).
Jeon started on 17, and after bogeying two of the first four holes, rallied with six straight pars to sit two-over headed to the ninth. She carded a bogey on nine, but responded with pars on 10, 11 and 12 before bogeying two of the final four holes to finish the round with a five-over 77. It was the lowest single-round score of the spring for the sophomore, as she tallied a three-day 248 (83-88-77).
Ryann White opened with bogeys on four of her first six holes to sit four over heading to the fourth. Another par and a bogey put her at five over, but she notched her first birdie of the day on six. After a bogey and two pars on the next three holes, she delivered a four on the par-5 10th to move to plus-4. Her round ended with three bogeys on the final five to finish with a 79 in the final round.
Katie Belser opened on 16, and came out of the gate by notching pars on each of her first five holes. Bogeys on three, six and seven sent her to three over, but nine and 10 proved her undoing. She posted a double on nine and a triple on 10 to fall to plus-8 before finishing her round with three pars and a pair of bogeys to finish with an 82 in the third round.
Lindsay Biehler began her round by scoring par on 17, 18 and 1, but bogeyed three of the next four holes to fall to plus-3 heading to the sixth. She rallied with consecutive pars, then a double on eight and a bogey on nine saw her plus-6 at the turn. She notched pars on three of the next five holes, but suffered another double on 15 to fall to plus-10.
The Islanders are now off until they play host to the Southland Conference Tournament next week. The three-day, 54-hole event will be held from Monday, April 18, through Wednesday, April 20, at the Corpus Christi Country Club. Live results for the tournament will be available on GolfStat.com.
