Islanders 16th After Day One of Baylor Spring Invitational

WACO -

After a tough start in the morning, the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team rallied in the second round to sit in 16th after the first day of the Baylor Spring Invitational, held at Twin Rivers Golf Club. Sophomore Nikki Dunn had one of the lowest rounds in the field in the second session, posting a 72 to place her in a tie for 26th through 36 holes.

In the second round, Dunn had an impressive outing. The sophomore parred 13 and 14, then dropped in consecutive birdies to drop to two-under. After scoring par on 17 and 18, she turned in her first bogey of the round on one, but responded with a birdie on the second to return to minus-2. Consecutive bogeys on seven and eight put her back to even, where she finished after concluding the round with four straight pars. It was the third-lowest round of the afternoon session.

Ryann White carded a second-round 79 after her first-round 80. The junior posted 11 pars and seven bogeys in the afternoon, notching par on nine of the 10 par-4s on the course. Katie Belser started the second 18 in solid fashion, posting pars on her first four holes before a double at 17 pushed her to two-over. She added a bogey on one to move to plus-3 through her opening nine holes, but the final nine of the second round saw her finish with an 84.

Lindsay Biehler started on 14 and carded bogeys on each of her first two holes, but bounced back by notching a birdie on >16. The front nine saw her shoot three-over on the third and post a double on eight, but six pars helped her sit eight over at the turn. Her final four holes pushed her to plus-14 in the second round. Cecilia Jeon struggled on the front nine after starting on 14, shooting plus-9 on the front to finish with a second-round 88.

The Islanders scuffled in the opening round, posting a 328. White shot an 80 to lead all Islanders individuals, notching birdies on the 16th and 2nd, but suffering double bogeys on 17 and 8 after starting the round on the 12th. Belser had a solid opening round by shooting an 81, including a birdie on the 16th.

Jeon was third among the players for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, delivering an 11-over 83, posting birdies on both 15 and 10. Dunn struggled in the morning, in stark contrast to her afternoon round, with an 84, while Biehler shot 86 in her first competitive round since the fall.

The Islanders will look to move up the leaderboard in the third and final round, which is a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
