Junior Ryann White of the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team has been named the Southland Conference Women's Golfer of the Month, the organization announced today. It is the first monthly award for White and the first honor for an Islanders golfer this season.
A native of Lubbock, Texas, White showed impressive consistency throughout the month of March, shooting 73, 74 or 75 in five of her six rounds. At the prestigious Rio Verde Invitational, she battled one of the toughest courses the Islanders have played to a plus-11, just five strokes behind second place. At the Arkansas-Little Rock Golf Classic, she was fourth, just two strokes behind champion Laura Stempfle, in shooting a five-over 221.
She also had a strong finish in last month's American Bank Islander Classic. The junior finished fourth at the event to lead the Islanders to a fifth-place finish in their host event, held at Corpus Christi Country Club. According to GolfStat's latest rankings, White is the number two player in the conference overall, behind only UTSA's Paola Valerio.
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi will be off for the next two weeks before returning to action with a trip to Waco for the Baylor Spring Invitational on April 11-12. The Islanders then will host the Southland Conference Championship April 18-20 at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
