Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team returns to the links on Monday and Tuesday at the ORU Shootout presented by Bob Hurley Auto Family. The tournament will be hosted by Oral Roberts and will be held at the Meadowbrook Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla.
During the next three weeks the team is entered in a string of tournaments in which they'll face several tough opponents.
"We're starting a three-week stretch of travel that'll have us facing strong competition," said head coach Carol Blackmar "It'll be fun to watch our young team compete at this level."
At their last tournament, the Islanders finished fifth as a team at the Worldlink North Texas Classic in Fort Worth. Ryann White led A&M-Corpus Christi, finishing in a tie for sixth place with an overall three round score of 221.
Also starting off the season strong were Katie Belser and newcomer Lindsay Biehler. Biehler finished 24th with Belser finishing 29th. Nikki Dunn tied for 34th in her first tournament for the Islanders.
Scheduled to compete are host Oral Roberts, Texas-Pan American, Southern Utah, Sam Houston State, UTEP, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Northern Iowa, UMKC, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Illinois, Lamar, Southern Nazarene, McLennan CC, SMU and Arkansas St.
"This tournament, we're incorporating new faces into our line-up," added Blackmar "We're a young team and will be relying on our returners to lead newcomers this next week
"Our younger players are ready to show what they can provide to the team in a tournament setting"
The tournament starts on Monday, October 4th and ends on Tuesday at the Meadowbrook Golf Club.
