Courtney Peeler fired a final round 72 and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team posted its best round of the tournament Tuesday in the final round of the Stripes Islander Classic at Corpus Christi Country Club.
With a final round 72, Peeler climbed to a tenth-place finish as an individual with a 231 (81-78-72). Ryann White finished tied for 14th one shot behind Peeler. White opened with a 76 followed by a pair of 78s to score a 232. Ashley Watkins wrapped the tournament with her lowest round carding an 80.
The Islanders combined for a 313 on the final day as they posted the fourth-best round of the day. Tulsa, which won the tournament in a playoff, had the low round of the day as the Hurricane shot a 306. They finished the day tied with North Texas, who had a 309.
Tulsa was awarded the title as its No. 5 golfer finished the final round three shots better than her Mean Green counterpart. Oral Roberts placed third with a 309 and had a 927 (306-312-309) for the 54-hole event.
Amber Hensley of Oral Roberts carded a 70 over the final 18 holes to finish with a 221 (76-75-70) to earn medalist honors by three shots. Kirsten Splitter of Sam Houston, who led after two rounds, shot a 78 in the final round to drop from first to second with a 224 (72-74-78).
The Islanders are off until competing during spring break at the Northern Migration Invitational in Florence, Ariz.
