ISLANDER GOLF RETURNS TO ACTION MONDAY AT SAM HOUSTON

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team will participate in the Elkin Lakes Golf Classic at the Elkin Lakes Country Club weather permitting. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday on the par-71, 6,041-yard course.

The tournament consists of eight women's teams. Joining the Islanders are McNeese State, Houston Baptist, Tyler Junior College, Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin, Centenary and the host Bearkats. An eight-team men's tournament will also be played.

We are still trying to put the pieces together," Islander head coach Carol Blackmar. "We want to go out there card some good scores and continue to evaluate what we need to work on.

"Hopefully, we can get the tournament in, but the rain has followed us. The wet weather has followed us all fall. Some of the holes are soft already and there is a 60-percent chance of rain tomorrow."

The Islanders will be playing their first round of golf since the final day of the Payne Stewart Memorial Tournament when they shot a fall-best 300. Ashley Watkins led the way with a 72.

A&M-Corpus Christi closes out the fall portion of their schedule in two weeks at the Pat Bradley Invitational hosted by Florida International.
