TEMPE, Ariz. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team opened its first trip to the NCAA West Regional with a round of 315 led by junior Courtney Peeler's team-best 75 on Thursday at Karstens Golf Course on the campus of Arizona State.

With the 315 on the par-72 course, the Islanders finished 27-over par in the first round in 21st spot. A&M-Corpus Christi was three shots behind Oral Roberts and six behind Colorado. Top-ranked and host Arizona State raced to a 15 shot lead over a trio of teams tied for second-place – Arizona, Texas, and Texas A&M – with a 15-under par 273.

Peeler's 75 places her in a tie for 54th place as an individual. She finished nine shots behind leader Belen Mozo of USC who shot a 66. Mozo, the 10th-ranked player in Division I, finished a shot of ahead of the No. 1 player in the country Jane Chin of UC Irvine and sixth-ranked Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State.

Junior Melissa Fahey finished with a 7-over 79. Ashley Olynick and Ryann White had rounds of 80 and 81, respectively. Ashley Watkins, who tied for second at the Southland Conference Champion, had an 82. Peeler, Fahey and Olynick each had a pair of birdies on the day.

The second round is Friday with the Islanders to tee off beginning at 7:50 a.m. Mountain Time and 9:50 locally.
