CORPUS CHRISTI – Shola Adebayo has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Adebayo earns the award after leading the team in scoring in both games this week.
Adebayo posted 18 points against McNeese State on Thursday, followed by 16 more against Nicholls on Saturday to help the Islanders clinch the No. 6 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament, marking the team's first appearance in four years.
The Oklahoma City native also collected 11 rebounds in the two victories and showed her ability to drive the paint and draw contact, sinking 15 of her 18 shots from the free-throw line.
Adebayo now has three double-digit scoring performances in her last four games to move her points per game average up to 8.1.
The Islanders will open up tournament play on Wednesday, as they take on McNeese State at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
