Women's Basketball Falls to TCU, 69-38

FORT WORTH, Texas – Senior Jessica Jammer powered the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's basketball team for the second straight game with 14 points and seven rebounds, but the Islanders' dropped its final non-conference game to TCU, 69-38, Saturday evening at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

The Islanders (1-10) tallied 15 steals and led the paint but the Horned Frogs (7-4) were hot from three-point land, triggering 12 for the game. TCU was paced by Kamy Cole's 23 points, including six three's and Donielle Breaux chipped in 10 points. TCU led the boards 49-28, behind by Latricia Lovings' 17 and Veja Hamilton's 10.

Freshman Janae Blount and junior Brandi Huff each chipped in six points apiece. Junior Taryn Gregory collected four steals and Blount added three in a game that featured all 11 dressed Islanders.

TCU opened the game on a 6-0 run with back-to-back three pointers before the Islanders put together a 5-0 run with a trey from Alisa Roberts and a layup from Jammer. The Horned Frogs followed with its third three and nailed a jumper before Blount cut the deficit to three on a three pointer.

After TCU put together a 15-3 run, Morgan Schwartz got on board with a layup. TCU's Cole triggered another three before Jammer trimmed the deficit to 14 with a jumper. Huff and Jammer capped a 7-0 TCU run with back-to-back buckets to end the half.

The Horned Frogs went into the locker room with a 36-19 halftime lead behind Breaux's 10 points and Lovings 10 boards. Jammer paced the Islanders with eight points and four rebounds. Blount collected three points, two assists and two steals.

The Islanders opened the second half with a 4-0 run with buckets by Roberts and Jammer but TCU answered with back-to-back three-point plays. Jammer nailed a layup before the Horned Frogs went on a 13-0 run. The Islanders answered with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 56-32 with 6:24 to play but TCU held off the Islanders as time expired.

The Islanders will ring in the 2013 year with Southland Conference action starting on Friday, Jan. 4, at Sam Houston State. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
