CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team has signed Janae Lyde (Albany, N.Y./Texas Southern) to scholarship for the 2012-13 season, head coach Royce Chadwick announced today. Lyde is a sophomore transfer from Texas Southern.
"Janae adds Division I collegiate point guard experience to our practices and program," Head Coach Royce Chadwick said. "She will enable us to compete at a high level throughout the year while she satisfies Division I transfer rules."
The 5-2 guard from Albany, N.Y. was a freshman starter for the Texas Southern Tigers that went 6-22 last season. Lyde tallied seven points and five assists against the Islanders in the Tigers 63-54 victory last season in the Houston Baptist Tournament.
Prior to attending Texas Southern, Lyde was a four-year letterwinner for Bishop Maginn High School in Albany, N.Y. under Head Coach Julie Reily. She averaged 23.4 points per game and led the Griffins to a 15-4 record during her senior season. Lyde also chipped in 5.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.7 steals per game. She was named to the First Team Gazette All-Area Team and earned Seventh Team All-New York State. Lyde was named Big 10 honorable mention her first two years before earning Big 10 MVP honors her senior year and Big 10 first team her junior year. She graduated 10th in her class and was on honor roll every semester.
Lyde joins Janae Blount (Washington D.C./Howard D. Woodson HS), Ashanti Plummer (Manhattan, N.Y./Lab Museum United HS), Morgan Schwartz (Garden City, Texas/Midland CC) and Zenobia Winbush (Schertz, Texas/Clemens HS) for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
