CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team took part in the annual Play 4Kay game for breast cancer awareness Wednesday night against Texas State. The subject was of particular interest for Islanders Athletics, as one of the department's senior staffers, Jennifer Baker, has been battling the disease over the last two years.
Here is Jennifer's story:
Three dollars of every single game ticket sold to the game was donated to benefit breast cancer awareness and patient care. The Islanders sported pink jerseys and fans wore pink to the game to show their support.
Play 4Kay, formerly known as the WBCA Pink Zone, has women's basketball teams throughout the country wear pink jerseys and help raise awareness for breast cancer research. The event was renamed in honor of KayYow, the Hall of Fame coach who passed away in 2009 after three battles with breast cancer.
