Women's basketball hosts rival UTSA in Southland action
The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will host its nearest rival on Wednesday night when they take on UTSA at the American Bank Center in a game with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
The Islanders come into the game with a record of 2-23 while still searching for a Southland Conference victory at 0-12 in the league. UTSA is now 12-13 overall, but are still in contention for the league crown with an 8-4 record. Earlier in the season, UTSA won the first contest between the two teams on Jan. 12 in San Antonio. The Roadrunners lead the all-time series by a slim 7-6 margin.
Last time out, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi lost a 75-64 final to second-place Lamar at the Dugan Wellness Center. Jessica Jammer was the leading scorer with 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Anitra Jeffery finished with a double-double of her own, pulling down 15 rebounds and scoring 10 points.
Adrienne Scott was limited by early foul trouble in that game, but still comes into the game against UTSA as the leading scorer for the Islanders while averaging 14 points per game. Ashley Darley and Jeffery are each scoring over eight points a game while Jammer is fourth with 7.9 a contest.
The Roadrunners won a 73-63 game over Nicholls in their last game, with Amber Gregg leading the way by scoring 22 points. Ashley Gardner scored 18 while Ashleigh Franklin and Lyndi Thorman also scored in double digits.
Gregg leads the team with 13.5 per game while Gardner is second. Franklin comes in third on the scoring list while leading the team in rebounding at 8.4 boards every time out.
