Islanders host Lady Cardinals in rematch of Southland Tournament Finals

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will host the Lamar Lady Cardinals on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center. It will be the first time the two teams have met since Lamar won the Southland Conference Tournament by defeating the Islanders in the finals.

It has been a tale of two seasons, as Texas A&M - Corpus Christi has struggled this year coming off of the best season in team history and are 2-22 overall with a 2-11 mark in Southland Conference games. The Cardinals have been nearly as good as a year ago, compiling a 20-5 record, including a 9-2 record in league play for a second place standing.

In their last game, the Islanders lost a hard-fought 81-77 final on the road at Texas State. Jade Davis scored a season-high 18 points while Adrienne Scott and Ashley Darley scored 18 as well.

Scott is the leading scorer for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi with a 14.4 points per game average and is seventh in the Southland for scoring average. Darley is second on the team with 8.5 per game while Anitra Jeffery adds 8.1 a night. Jeffery is top on the team in rebounding at 8.5 every game while Scott is also averaging over eight with an 8.1 rebounding average.

The Lady Cardinals got by the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions on Wednesday night, taking a 68-65 win at home to maintain second place in the conference standings.

They are led in scoring by Kalis Loyd at 14.2 points per game, but she is followed closely by Monique Whittaker at 14.1 and Jenna Plumley at 14.0 points a night. Trashanna Smith is tops on the team in rebounding with an average of 8.3 per game.
