The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will travel to Hammond, La. this Saturday for a Southland Conference matchup against the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the University Center on the SELU campus.
The Islanders are looking to get their first Southland Conference win of the season after starting the year 2-13 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Lady Lions are 8-5 on the season, including a 0-1 record in conference following their loss against Stephen F. Austin.
The two teams will meet for the sixth time in school history, with Texas A&M - Corpus Christi holding a slight 3-2 edge in the series. The two teams met in Hammond last season with the Islanders taking a 75-67 win.
Last time out for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, they lost a 69-44 game to the UTSA Roadrunners in San Antonio. Ashley Darley led the team in scoring with 13 points while junior forward Zoey Vega-Vega pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for her third double-digit effort of the season. As a team, the Islanders out-rebounded the Roadrunners by a 52-34 margin but were unable to overcome the UTSA attack.
The team will be led by senior forward Adrienne Scott and her 11.3 points per game. Jessica Jammer has come on strong recently and is scoring 7.8 per game while Darley rounds out the top three at 7.2 points a contest. Scott is also second on the team at 7.2 rebounds per game, second to fellow senior Anitra Jeffery at 7.4 a night.
For the Lions, Rashima Jenkins tops the scoring list at 10.1 points per game. She is followed by Kelli Jenkins at 9.5 per game. Rashima Jenkins is also the top rebounder on the team with her 7.6 per game average.
