Islanders travel to face rival UTSA in Southland Conference action

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will travel to face its closest rival on Wednesday night when they play UTSA in San Antonio. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

The Islanders are 2-12 on the year and 0-1 in Southland Conference games following a loss to McNeese State to open league play. UTSA is 4-10 overall and also 0-1 in the conference following an opening loss to Sam Houston State.

Last time out, the team lost a 76-51 decision to McNeese State at the American Bank Center. Ashley Darley scored a career-high 16 points to pace the Islanders. They were unable to stop the hot hand of Ashlyn Baggett however as the Cowgirls guard scored 24 to lead her team to victory.

Adrienne Scott is leading the team in scoring for the season at 11.6 points per game and is second in rebounding at 7.2 per game. Following an injury to Lauren Smith against Texas - Pan American, the second-leading active scorer on the team is Jessica Jammer at 7.9 points a contest. Anitra Jeffery leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 a game.

The Roadrunners are led by Amber Gregg, one of four players averaging double-digit points. Gregg averages 12.5 a contest, followed by Ashley Gardner and Ashleigh Franklin at 10.1 per night. Kameisha Johnson rounds out the group at 10.0 points per game. Franklin leads the team in rebounding at 8.6 per contest, followed by Alysse Davis at 7.2 every time out.

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi is 2-4 all-time against the Roadrunners on the road with the last victory coming to kickoff the 2004-05 season. They have never defeated UTSA on the road since joining the Southland Conference for the 2006-07 season. The two split games last year, with the home team winning each matchup to even the series at 6-6 all-time between the programs.
