The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will start Southland Conference play by hosting McNeese State for the third time in five years since joining the league before the 2006-07 season. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tipoff at the American Bank Center.
The Islanders come into the game having won two in-a-row and are now 2-11 on the year. The look to repeat history, having won against the Cowgirls the two previous times they opened the Southland slate against each other. McNeese comes into the game with an 8-5 record, having gone 5-0 at home, but just 2-5 on the road.
Last time out, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi avenged an earlier loss against Texas - Pan American by taking an 84-70 win over the Lady Broncs. Jessica Jammer scored a career-high 25 points while Adrienne Scott also set a new personal best with 16 rebounds. She also scored 19 points for her second consecutive double-double and her third overall of the year.
Scott jumped into the top spot in the statistics following her performance and now averages 12.1 points per game while Jammer upped her scoring average to 8.3 following her 25-point outburst. Anitra Jeffery leads the team with a 7.7 rpg average on the year while Scott comes in second at 7.3 rebounds a contest.
The Cowgirls are coming off of an 88-52 win over Centenary at the Burton Coliseum. Previous to that game, they lost a 62-34 game at Memphis before the New Year. They are led in scoring by Ashlyn Baggett at 13.4 points per game. Her twin sister Caitlyn Baggett is second on the team at 9.8 ppg. Kendra Wells leads the team in rebounding at a 7.0 per game clip while Kiara Johnson is close behind with 6.8 rebounds a contest.
The Islanders lead the all-time series by a 3-1 margin, taking a 72-62 win in Corpus Christi.
