The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will be looking to exact a measure of revenge Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. tipoff against the Texas - Pan American Lady Broncs at the American Bank Center.
The Islanders are coming off of their first win of the season against Utah Valley and are now 1-11 on the year. The Lady Broncs are 8-9 on the season after a win over Sam Houston State, followed by losses to two nationally-ranked teams last week.
Last time out for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, Adrienne Scott recorded her second double-double of the year, 10 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with a career-high five blocks to propel her team to victory. Jessica Jammer led the team with 13 points in the contest while a total of five different Islanders scored in double digits.
Lauren Smith is leading the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game while Scott is just one point behind at 11.3 every time out. Anitra Jeffery is leading the team at 8.1 rebounds per game with Scott coming in second at 6.3 a night. Smith checks in with 5.1 rpg, good enough for third on the team.
In the earlier season matchup, the two teams met in Edinburg on UTPA's home court with the Lady Broncs taking a 70-57 victory. UTPA is currently unbeaten on their home court after taking down Southland-member Sam Houston State in their last home game before the New Year.
Leading the opposing team will be Bianca Torre, who comes into the game averaging 18.1 points per game on the year. She scored 14 points against the Islanders earlier in the season. Ce'Monay Newell is second on the team with a 16.3 average. She scored a game-high 21 points in the first matchup between the two teams and will draw extra attention as Texas A&M - Corpus Christi tries to contain her in the second matchup of the year.
Yannis Koutroupis will call the action for SportsRadio 1230 AM with the broadcast being simulcast on 103.3 and 96.1 FM across the area. Live stats and video will be available by visiting www.GoIslanders.com.
