The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will try to get into the win column for the first time of the 2010-11 season when they travel to Edinburg for a Saturday game against Texas - Pan American. The two teams will meet in a 4:00 p.m. contest at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
On the year, the Islanders are 0-3 after suffering a road loss to Kansas on Wednesday night in Lawrence, Kan. The Lady Broncs come into the meeting with a 2-0 record after wins over Our Lady of the Lake and Texas Southern. The teams met twice last year, with each of the visiting teams taking home a victory.
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi saw Jessica Jammer score 11 points against KU on Wednesday night. She was the third different player to lead the team in points in each of the three games this year. Lauren Smith is tops on the team with an 11 points per game average. Anitra Jeffery is leading the team in rebounding with 30 on the season for a 10 per game mark. She is also third on the team in scoring at 8.7 per contest. Jammer sits second on the team with 9.0 per contest.
The Lady Broncs are led by CeMonay Newell at 17 points a game. Adanna Opara leads the way in rebounding with a 9.5 average through two outings. Newell led the way against Our Lady of the Lake, scoring 23 points in a 72-61 win. Opara grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 12 points to lead the team in both categories in the 70-62 win over Texas Southern.
