The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will host Sam Houston State on Saturday afternoon on Stripes Court in a key Southland Conference game for the Islanders title hopes. Tip-off is set for 1 PM at the American Bank Center.

TAMUCC sits at 15-7 overall and 7-2 in Southland Conference games. They are just one game behind league-leading Lamar who sits at 8-1 in conference play and are tied with UTSA for second in the conference standings. The Bearkats are 6-15 overall this season and just 3-6 in Southland games.

The last meeting between the two teams was a nail biter, going to overtime in Huntsville before the Islanders were able to gain control and take a 76-69 victory over the Bearkats. The win moved the all-time series to 10-1 in favor of the Islanders.

Leading the Islanders in scoring is Jade Davis at 14.6 points per game. Adrienne Scott is the only other team member scoring in double-digits at 11.5 per game. Elisa Beagle pulls down rebounds at a 7.9 per game average to lead the team while Deziree Green follows close behind at 7.0 a game. Davis is seventh in the Southland in scoring while Beagle is tied for fifth in the league.

Brittany Brooks leads the Bearkats in scoring at a 13.5 per game clip while Whitney Smith leads them in rebounding at a 7.4 per game average.

The two teams score at nearly an identical rate, TAMUCC averaging 68.5 points per game while Sam Houston scored 68.4 per contest. The defense is dramatically different however, with the Islanders fourth in the league, allowing 65.0 points per game. In contrast, the Bearkats are last in the Southland, allowing 80.0 points per game.
