ISLANDER WOMEN TRAVEL TO SAM HOUSTON FOR SOUTHLAND CONTEST
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team is back on the road this weekend, traveling to Huntsville to take on Sam Houston State at 2 PM on Saturday afternoon. The Islanders lead the all-time series by an 8-1 mark including both games last season.
The Islanders are now 12-6 on the season and 4-1 in Southland Conference games.
In TAMUCC's last game, they picked up their first win over UTSA in six chances and kept their conference record at just one loss. The Islanders trailed for a significant part of the game before making a comeback in the second half and taking the lead for good with just 1:27 left in the contest. The win moved the all-time series to 6-5 in favor of the Islanders.
Jade Davis scored 24 in the game and improved her season scoring average to 14.3, good for seventh in the Southland Conference. Myeisha Myles was the leading rebounder in the game with 13, her first double-digit game on the boards this season. She is now fourth on the team with a 5.5 rebounds per game average.
The Bearkats come into the game with a 5-12 overall record and a 2-3 record in Southland play. Their last game was against Lamar, a 86-68 loss to the Lady Cardinals in Beaumont. Before that, they won back-to-back games over Texas State and defending champion UT Arlington.
Brittany Brooks leads the team in scoring at 12.9 per game while Whitney Smith follows close behind at 12.6 per game. Ray Alexander rounds out the double-digit scorers with 11.5 points per game.
