Junior Deziree Green was named to the first-team of the Southland Conference All-Academic team on Tuesday after a vote of the leagues coaches, sports information directors and academic advisor. The award recognizes the Islander women's basketball player for her hard work both on the court and in the classroom.
"This is a great honor for Deziree, she works very hard in the classroom as well as on the court," said Head Coach Robert Robinson. "She is really the definition of the student-athlete."
Green, a kinesiology major from Houston, currently carries a 3.50 grade point average in her junior year on the island. In addition to her high GPA, Green has also contributed significantly on the court for the Islanders, averaging 6.5 points per game this season while playing 25.7 minutes per game. This is Green's second consecutive SLC All-Academic honor while also being named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America District VI Team as a sophomore.
"It is something we preach as a coaching staff, the two go hand in hand," said Robinson. "If you can handle your business in the classroom, you will be ready to handle your business out on the court as well."
