2012 (JUNIOR): Was one of the Islanders most consisted hitters during the season … recorded a .255 batting average while starting in all 37 games she played in … started all but two games at first base … third on the team with 26 hits and second with 12 runs … was one of two Islanders to tally two home runs on the season … was 4-for-5 on stolen bases and led the Islanders with 274 put outs, which was good for sixth in the conference … finished 10th in the conference with a .993 fielding percentage … had arguably her best game vs. Nicholls State (3/3) in the Ragin’ Cajun Invitational when she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs and her first two career home runs … earned the Islanders Gold’s Gym Award for excellence in strength and conditioning.
2011 (SOPHOMORE): Started 14 of the 31 games her sophomore year…walked three times against UT Arlington (2/11)...in the same game she recorded 14 putouts…was limited in game action after battling injuries throughout the season.
2010 (FRESHMAN): As a freshman, McKinney played in 49 games and started 41 as the primary first baseman for the Islanders…had a .298 batting average in her first year while hitting seven doubles, one triple and four home runs to go along with 16 RBI…hit her first collegiate home run against Southland opponent McNeese State (2/12) in the second game of the season and hit one against No. 10 Stanford the very next day (2/13)…had a career-high three RBI against McNeese State (2/12) at the Hawaii tournament…stole a season-high two bases against UT Arlington (5/1) and had a total of five on the year…drew 13 walks and reached on a hit-by-pitch a team-high 13 times as well.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played at New Braunfels Canyon HS for head coach Kevin Randal...was both a first team all-district player as well as first team all-county selection all four years of high school...led her team to a 4A State Championship and a 38-3 record during her senior season...named district offensive MVP her sophomore and junior years...hit .361 with a .436 on-base percentage and drove in 42 runs on eight home runs while scoring 46 runs and stealing 10 bases...part of the first softball team to win a state championship at Canyon HS...also played volleyball.
PERSONAL: Born Meagan Elaine De La Garza on May 15, 1991, in Seguin, Texas...parents are Erika and Tim McKinney...plans to major in business/marketing.
