Ciao from Canada 7/10: Greta Cecchetti Blogs Her Journey With Team Italy
This is my fifth consecutive year with the Italian National Team but every summer when you get that email that says you made the team it is always a great feeling. I have been playing in the states for the past four years and training to reach the team's goals, but the national team is always in the back of my mind. One of the reasons why I decided to play in college was also because I knew I would have the chance to get better for my national team. Playing for your country is an amazing experience, and I feel so honored to be a part of the team.
This summer is going to be even better because we are going to play for a world championship! It is not just a tournament like many others ... since softball has been removed from the Olympics, the world championship is the top competition a softball player can dream of. I just can't describe how excited I am!
I think it would be wrong to say that our team is going there to win the whole thing, obviously we all know that we can't put ourselves on the same level with teams like USA, Japan, or Australia … but our goal is definitely to pass the first round and to be ranked higher than the other European teams (Great Britain, Holland, and Czech Republic). This would be a great accomplishment for us.
Talk to you soon!
