Softball Signs Elicerio to National Letter of Intent

CORPUS CHRISTI – Ashley Elicerio, a right-handed pitcher from El Paso, Texas (Hendrickson HS), has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team, Head Coach Stephanie Hughes announced today. Elicerio will join the Islanders program for the 2012-13 season.

"I am extremely excited to add Ashley to our program," Hughes said. "Her athleticism and flexibility as both a pitcher and a hitter will help us work toward furthering this program into the future. She will be a key factor in the success of Islanders Softball."

Elicerio, a 5-7 pitcher and utility player, comes to the Island University after playing four years on the varsity team at Hendrickson High School under head coach Doug Harrigan. She was named HHS Co-Utility Player of the Year as a freshman along with Newcomer of the Year in District 25-4A. Elicerio led the Hawks to a 25-4A Bi-District and Area Championship as a freshman.

During her sophomore year, she was tabbed HHS Utility and Offensive Player of the Year in addition to 25-4A Co-Offensive MVP. For the second straight year, Elicerio and the Hawks were named Bi-District champs. Following her performance at districts, Elicerio was named First Team All-District.

As a junior, she was named HHS Utility Player of the Year for the third consecutive year and earned 16-4A First Team All District honors.

Elicerio has been playing travel ball since the 2005 season where she started playing for the Texas Stix. Since then she has played for the Austin Ambassadors, Austin Storm, Texas Blaze and most recently Platinum Softball.

In 2011 Elicerio was a volunteer coach for Round Rock Sertoma Girls Softball League (RRSGSL) and for a Town & Country softball camp.

Elicerio led the Hawks to a 17-9 record during her senior season after advancing the team to the regional quarterfinals.

Elicerio will join three outfielders Natalie Zarzabal (Schertz, Texas/Byron P. Steele), Katelyn Bates (Willis, Texas/Willis) and Dani Tefft (Sugar Land, Texas/Kempner), who signed in November.
