CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team has received the sixth seed in the 2012 Southland Conference Tournament, it was announced by the conference today. The Islanders (17-21, 11-9 SLC) will make its third consecutive Southland Conference tournament appearance when it faces No. 3 seed McNeese State (32-19, 12-8 SLC) at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas.
The Islanders fell to McNeese State in a two-day series during the regular season at Chapman Field. In the first game, the Cowgirls used a late rally in the final frame to edge the Islanders 3-2 in the first of two final home games at Chapman Field. In the second game, McNeese State's Katie Roux hit a two-out RBI double in the top of the fifth to lift the Cowgirls past the Islanders, 1-0, on Senior Day.
Regular-season champion Texas State earned the top seed in the tournament and will face the winner of the No. 4 UTSA and No. 5 Central Arkansas matchup on Thursday. Sam Houston State earned the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of the Islanders and Cowgirls game on Thursday.
The 2012 Southland Conference Softball Tournament plays a six-team double elimination format with a possibility of 11 games. The 11th game would be played in the event an undefeated team lost in the title game forcing a second game, upholding the double elimination format.
