CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will continue Southland Conference action Tuesday at Sam Houston State. The Islanders are currently on a four-game winning streak and have clinched three consecutive conference sweeps. The Islanders have won eight of their last nine conference games and six in a row.
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi enters Tuesday's doubleheader with a 16-16 overall record. The Islanders and Bearkats are tied for second place in the conference behind Texas State. The Islanders sit at 10-4 in conference play after picking up the team's third sweep of the season two weeks against Stephen F. Austin. Prior to that, the Islanders swept Central Arkansas and Southeastern La. The Islanders have split with UTSA, Northwestern State, Texas State and UT Arlington.
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi picked up a 3-0 non-conference victory over Houston Baptist on Saturday in Houston. The Islanders used 18 players and four out of its five pitchers en route to their second win over the Huskies. The Islanders outhit HBU 11-2 and seven different Islanders tallied hits with freshman Hayley Galloway leading the way with three hits.
The Islanders and Bearkats will meet for the 23rd time with the Bearkats holding the 7-15 advantage. Last season the Bearkats won two out of the three.
LAST TIME OUT
The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team outhit Houston Baptist 11-2 and used a season-high 18 players to cruise to a 3-0 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at Husky Field. The Islanders have won four straight and eight of its last 10 games.
The Islanders used four out of its five pitchers and limited Houston Baptist to just two hits and three base runners. Seven different Islanders tallied hits with freshman Hayley Galloway leading the way with three hits.
Greta Cecchetti picked up her 10th victory in the circle and third straight. The senior pitched the first two innings and retired all six Huskies she faced. Vianca Pesina entered in the bottom of the third and allowed just one hit while striking out three in two innings. Jordan Trujillo entered in the bottom of the fifth and retired all six of her batters she faced while striking out two in two innings. Sophomore Constance Brandenburg made her fourth appearance of the season in the circle in the bottom of the seventh. She allowed the Huskies one walk and one hit in one inning while sealing her first save of the season.
SCOUTING THE BEARKATS
Tuesday's game will mark the 23rd meeting between the two schools with the Bearkats leading the series 7-15.
Sam Houston State holds an overall 22-17 record and sits with a 10-4 record in the Southland Conference. The Bearkats are led by Kim Damian's .386 batting average and eight home runs. Tori Benavidez is second with a .352 batting average and co-leads the team with Damian with 44 hits. Shelbi Tucker leads the team with 28 RBIs and is third on the team with a .294 batting average.
In the circle, the Huskies are powered by Shelby Lancaster. She holds a 2.80 ERA and a 9-6 record in 19 appearances. She has tallied 22 strikeouts in 85 innings. Tomi Garrison is second with an 8-8 record and a 3.09 ERA. She leads the team with 71 strikeouts in a team-high 108.2 innings. Meme Quinn is 5-2 with a 4.31 ERA in 37.1 innings.

The Islanders have maintained its second place ranking in the Southland Conference standings. The Islanders and Bearkats are both tied for second with a 10-4 record. Both teams sit behind Texas State's 10-2 record.
SWING BATTER SWING
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi is 15-1 when they out-hit their opponents and 1-13 when their opponent tallies more hits than them. The Islanders are outhitting their conference opponents 89-67. On Saturday, the Islanders outhit HBU 11-2.
Hayley Galloway is currently riding on a four-game hitting streak, while Meagan McKinney is are currently on a three-game hitting streak. Sandy Schumann and Jamise Jackson are both on a two-game hitting streak. Hannah Schwarz is first on the team with the longest hitting streak of nine and Cassie Redman is second on the team with seven.

The Islanders have rallied from behind this season to clinch six come-from-behind victories.
Laura Phillips is hitting .378 to lead the offense with a .432 slugging percentage and .529 on base percentage. The sophomore has tallied 14 hits and eight RBIs. Hayley Galloway is second on the team with a .302 batting average and has tallied 19 hits.
Sandy Schumann leads the team with 22 hits and Cassie Carroll leads the team with 13 RBIs. Schumann leads the team with three doubles and has the only Islanders triple of the season.
Hayley Galloway went a perfect 3-for-3 Saturday at Houston Baptist to help the Islanders cruise to a 3-0 victory. In the second inning, Galloway ripped a RBI double to right center to score the Islanders first run of the game. She connected on her second hit in the fourth frame with a single to shortstop and followed it with a single down the right field line in the sixth. For the week she recorded a perfect 1.000 batting average.
Galloway is second on the team with a .302 batting average and two spots behind her is Heller followed by Haleman. Heller holds a .270 batting average and Haleman sits at .267.
In conference play, Galloway leads the team with a .400 batting average while freshman Katelyn Potts is second with a .333 batting average. Carroll leads the team in conference play with eight RBIs and has also chipped in 10 hits.
IN THE CIRCLE
Greta Cecchetti (10-4) leads the Islanders in the circle with an ERA of 1.71 in 16 appearances and 81.2 innings pitched. She has allowed 48 hits and 22 runs while striking out a team-high 90 batters. In the Islanders last conference game, Cecchetti pitched her second consecutive one-hit game while striking out seven batters in 4.2 innings and improved her record to a perfect 8-0 in conference play. In the two games combined against SFA she struck out 18 Ladyjacks in 11.2 innings of work. For the week Cecchetti totaled 25 strikeouts in 17.2 innings while posting a 1.19 ERA. In conference play she currently holds a 0.38 ERA.
Vianca Pesina (1-6) holds a 4.54 ERA in 14 appearances. She has tallied 31 strikeouts in 61.2 innings. Jordan Trujillo holds a 5-5 record with a 3.75 ERA in 65.1 innings pitched. She is second on the team with 55 strikeouts. Constance Bradenburg (0-1) is second in the circle with a 3.00 ERA in four appearances and 7.0 innings pitched.
The Islanders were picked to finish second in the Southland Conference, after clinching the regular-season title last season. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi was selected to finish behind defending conference champion Texas State. The Islanders received five first-place votes with 87 points while Texas State received four.
Senior Hannah Schwarz, returns as a First Team selection for the second straight year after starting 58 of the Islanders 59 games last season. Senior Vianca Pesina returns as a Second Team selection after going 12-5 in the circle with a 2.26 ERA last season, which was sixth best in the conference.
Following Tuesday's doubleheader the Islanders will return home to Chapman Field for its final home series. The Islanders will host McNeese State on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28. Seniors Alejia Cain, Greta Cecchetti, Vianca Pesina, Cassie Redman, Sandy Schumann, Hannah Schwarz and Jordan Trujillo will be honored on Saturday in their final game at Chapman Field. First pitch is at 2 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
