Houston Takes Two From Islanders in Tuesday Doubleheader
HOUSTON – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team suffered two losses Tuesday to Houston in a non-conference doubleheader at Cougar Softball Stadium. The Cougars sealed a 4-0 victory in the first game before topping the Islanders 8-0 in five innings in the second game. Houston shut out the Islanders in all three games this season.
Houston (24-15, 9-3 C-USA) has won six straight and 14 of its last 16 games. The Cougars registered 14 hits in the two games.
The Islanders will look to bounce back when they return home to play three games in three consecutive days. First up is a non-conference game against Houston Baptist on Thursday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at Chapman Field. The Islanders will then continue Southland play at home on Friday and Saturday against Stephen F. Austin.

GAME 1: Houston 4, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi 0
Houston jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning and tacked on one run in the fourth before scoring two in the fifth to seal their fifth consecutive victory.
The Cougars outhit the Islanders 6-3. Redman, Cain and Jackson each tallied one hit apiece for the Islanders.
The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on two hits. Jennifer Klinkert led the inning off with a dropper behind third base and Jaime Edwards followed with a double to left center. The Cougars plated the first run of the game on a Kayla Holland fielder's choice but the Islanders escaped the inning with one Cougar stranded.
Jamise Jackson tallied the Islanders first hit of the game in the top of the fourth frame with a single up the middle before Houston tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Haley Outon started the inning off with a homer to left field to collect her 38th home run of the season.
The Cougars padded the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning on one hit and two Islander errors. Houston's leadoff batter Holly Anderson and Ashleigh Jones each reached base before each registered a stolen base. Anderson scored after stealing third on a wild pitch. Jones followed with another Cougar run after another Islander throwing error.
In the top of the sixth, the slanders loaded the bases on two hits but were unable to capitalize. Heller started things off with a walk and Redman advanced her to second on a bunt in front of home plate. Cain followed suit with a single to second to load the bases. Jackson reached on a fielder's choice but the Cougars were able to get out of the jam with two ground outs to end the inning.
Greta Cecchetti (7-4) took the loss for the Islanders in six innings. The senior allowed six hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.
Deidre Outon (9-3) picked up the win for the Cougars in seven innings. She limited the Islanders to just three hits and two walks while striking out five Islanders.
GAME 2: Houston 8, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi 0 (5 innings)
The Cougars carried over their momentum into game two of the doubleheader with eight hits and eight runs to shutout the Islanders 8-0 in five innings. Heller collected the Islanders only hit of the game.
Houston put up two runs in the first inning on two hits. In the first inning, leadoff hitter Anderson got on base with a walk and scored on a two-run homer by Melissa Gregson. Hayley Outon tallied the Cougars second hit of the game with a single to left field but the Islanders escaped the inning with one Cougar left on base.
The Islanders left one stranded in the top of the third. Heller tallied the Islanders only hit of the game with a single behind third base.
Houston put together a big third inning, plating six runs to take an 8-0 lead. The Islanders had two costly errors that led to two runs and the Cougars tallied four hits to extend the lead.
Vianca Pesina (1-6) suffered the loss for the Islanders in four innings. The senior allowed eight hits, while walking three and striking out two.
