Top Performance #2: Brittany Tucker hits three-straight homers

After winning the Southland Conference regular-season title, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi softball team entered the conference tourney as the No. 1 seed. But after falling in the opening round, it would take a momentous effort to rally through the elimination bracket for the team.

Brittany Tucker, literally and figuratively, stepped up to the plate for the team and showed her mettle with three-straight home runs in the championship round of the Southland Tournament.

Tucker blasted her first homer of the tourney against McNeese State, helping her team clinch an 8-6 victory. With two outs in the top of the seventh and an even score at 5-5, Tucker was up to bat, with Caley Jeter on third and Hannah Schwarz on second. Ahead in the count, Tucker hit a 2-0 pitch over the wall in straight-away centerfield to give the Islanders an 8-5 lead en route to a meeting with Texas State in the championship game.

Although the Islanders came up short in the finale, 8-5 against Texas State, Tucker’s batting skills threatened the Bobcats early on. The Islanders opened the scoring in the first on a Tucker solo home run to center to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Tucker followed with her third homer in as many at-bats. The Islanders, however, came up short as Texas State clinched the tournament championship.

Tucker’s three home runs tied a Southland Conference Tournament record and she became the first player to go yard in three straight at-bats. Tucker, second baseman Caley Jeter and pitcher Jordan Trujillo were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances at the event.
