Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball centerfielder Hannah Schwarz was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Central Region Second Team on Thursday. It marks the second year in-a-row that Schwarz has received an all-region honor after being named first team following the 2010 season.
The junior from Kerrville, Texas was once again one of the top hitters in the Southland Conference. She finished the 2011 season ninth in the league with a .345 batting average. She had the second-most hits among Southland players with 67 while scoring a league-high 40 runs the year. She helped lead the Islanders to their first-ever Southland Conference Championship with a 41-19 overall record at the conclusion of the season.
For her efforts, she was named First Team All-Southland in the outfield for the second-straight season. In her first year on the Island, she was named first team as well as the Southland Newcomer of the Year after leading the league in batting average and ranking among the top performers in several categories.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Schwarz was named the women's Southland Conference Steve McCarty Citizenship Award recipient. The honor is given to a student-athlete that represents their university in exemplary fashion both in and out of competition. She was also named First Team All-District VI of the Capital One Academic All-District teams as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She currently carries a 4.0 GPA in interdisciplinary studies while being heavily involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the Community Service Chair for the organization.
