Softball faces Houston Baptist in final non-conference games of the year

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will play its final two non-conference games of the regular season on Wednesday with a doubleheader against the Houston Baptist Huskies on the road. The first game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch at Husky Field.

The Islanders come into the contests with a 34-13 overall record this season. HBU is 25-20 as of Tuesday with a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday night against Texas Southern. The two teams met earlier this season in Corpus Christi with Texas A&M - Corpus Christi winning 4-2 and 4-0 in a pair of hard fought games.

The Islanders are led in hitting by Hannah Schwarz at .385 on the season, followed by Lauren Sanders at .374 and Stephanie Vead at .339 and Caley Jeter at .333 on the year. Kacie Smith leads the team in RBI with 34 on the season while Jeter is second at 33 and Lauren Dodson rounds out the top three with 32 this year. Dodson has a team-high 11 doubles while Smith leads the Islanders in home runs with five on the year.

Greta Cecchetti leads the way in pitching with a 1.91 ERA and 7-4 record. Vianca Pesina comes in second at 2.36 and 10 wins while Jordan Trujillo is third at a 2.59 ERA and 13-5 record. The group has a team ERA of 2.63 this year.

For HBU, Rebecca Rademacher is leading the team with a .402 average in 24 games. Of players in all games, Callie Herrington is tops on the team with a .338 mark. Sara Corcoran is at the top of the RBI list with 29 on the season while Mollye Mlcak is second at 24 and Herrington rounds out the top three with 21 on the season.

Jammie Weidert has the best ERA on the team with a 1.95 in five games started and 18 total appearances. Keely Shuler is second with a 2.23 ERA and Kendall Stiefel comes in under three as well with her 2.44 ERA. The team as a whole sports a 2.49 ERA in all games played.
